Long Lake Provincial Park Association

Celebrating the Volunteers at Long Lake Provincial Park Association

Since its founding in 1987, the Long Lake Provincial Park Association (LLPPA) has played a vital role in protecting and enhancing Long Lake Provincial Park, a treasured natural space just minutes from Halifax.

Created in 1984, the 2,000-hectare provincial park offers a haven for outdoor recreation, biodiversity, and community connection. LLPPA emerged to advocate for the park’s conservation, promote sustainable public use, and help manage this beloved green space for future generations.

A registered non-profit, LLPPA is powered entirely by volunteers. The group has made significant strides since its inception—most notably helping to shape the Department of Natural Resources’ official park management plan in 2008 and developing the popular trail system near Dunbrack Street and the Long Lake dam.

In the absence of consistent public funding, LLPPA continues to fill the gap, offering services and infrastructure that enable both active enjoyment and passive appreciation of nature. Through their leadership, the park has become more accessible, better maintained, and more welcoming to thousands of visitors each year.

Their motto, “Long Lake, a natural park, for all, forever,” reflects the association’s vision—a protected, thriving park that serves everyone in our community.

Whether you’re a trail walker, swimmer, paddler, or simply someone who values the presence of wild and quiet spaces in the city, you’ve likely benefited from the work of LLPPA volunteers. Learn more about their impact and how you can get involved at longlakepark.ca.
