Your Advocate for Halifax Armdale

Rod Wilson was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as MLA for Halifax Armdale in 2024. With over thirty years of experience in health care as a nurse, physician, and health-care executive, Rod brings a wealth of knowledge and proven leadership to his role. He is dedicated to advocating for improved health care and fostering stronger communities across the province.

Rod has held leadership roles with organizations such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, Doctors Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness. He also served on the governing council of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. His career has been marked by a steadfast commitment to serving diverse communities, including Indigenous peoples across Canada, African Nova Scotians, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, people living with HIV, and federal offenders on parole.

A champion for equity and access, Rod helped establish the Pride Health program at Nova Scotia Health and facilitated the creation of an evidence-based working group on Trans Health. He also successfully lobbied for a new sustainable site for the North End Community Health Centre.

Rod is an active member of the Private and Local Bills and Health Committees, as well as the Caucus Critic for Health and Wellness, Emergency Management, and Seniors and Long-Term Care.

Beyond his professional achievements, Rod is a dedicated volunteer. He has contributed to organizations such as the Nova Scotia Advisory Commission on AIDS, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, Hospice Halifax, Canadian Mental Health Association (Nova Scotia Division), Adsum for Women and Children, and Shelter Nova Scotia.

Rod lives in Halifax with his partner, Dr. Chris Pringle, and their “boys”, two beloved Labrador retrievers, Jimmy and Earl. In his spare time, he has been working towards his private pilot’s license.
