Dear Constituents of Halifax Armdale,
Can you believe it is the end of August? Within days, kids will be back in school, and vacation time will end for many.
It has been a busy summer as your MLA, trying to meet you when and where I can. The Canada Day Pancake Breakfast with the families and friends of Club Inclusion was a blast. Not only were the pancakes great, but I also got to meet many people who participate in Club Inclusion. The Club, with the support of the Prescott Group, is such a valuable space in our community.
Our community BBQ on Natal Day weekend brought out approximately 80–90 people. Again, great food, great chats, and I managed to get soaked twice by the excellent pitch to the SPLASH Stand.
Summer is my favourite time as an MLA, as it gives me the time and opportunity to get out and meet people across the riding. From speaking with people at the breakfasts and BBQs, I know there are a lot of concerns and questions on people’s minds, even on bright, sunny days. Questions about the cost of water, electricity, food, rent, traffic, classroom sizes, health care, and the rollout of The Remedy were among the many issues I heard about.
Many of these issues are larger than what one MLA can tackle alone. So, with the help of my caucus colleagues, we work together to advance our concerns and work with you to try to find sustainable solutions both inside and outside the legislature.
As I am accountable to those who elected me to represent them, I will be hosting my Annual Report to the Community in October, after the legislature rises. I will post the time and details as soon as they are available.
NS Legislature
The Nova Scotia Legislature will be sitting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. This is the opportunity for the government and all parties to present bills to be debated and, if approved, turned into provincial legislation. Ideally, these bills arise from the concerns of Nova Scotians and are brought forward by various political parties.
Over the summer, I heard your concerns on many topics, from health care, housing, and the cost of living to fracking. In collaboration with the Nova Scotia NDP, we have been researching and preparing bills to take to the legislature. Leg TV also allows you to see me question the government on issues that are important to you and all Nova Scotians.
Question Period is the time and place where, as your MLA, a member of the Official Opposition, and NDP critic for Health and Seniors and Long-Term Care, I get to hold the government accountable for its actions and advocate for better!
I will also be posting on social media about the bills I am bringing forward and welcome your thoughts and ideas as the legislature sits in September.

For the month of September, with the legislature sitting, my canvassing will be limited to Saturdays, September 19 and 26. Neighbourhoods are to be determined.

I have worked with many of the residents of Nehiley House over the years and have seen the benefit that safe, secure, supportive housing can provide. It helps women and their families launch a new start in life and do well.
