Supporting Families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People
A step toward healing
Nova Scotia has launched a new program to support families of missing and murdered Indigenous people. This is a step forward in addressing the trauma, injustice, and lack of support that families have endured for far too long.
While this program is overdue, it reflects long-standing calls from Indigenous communities for culturally grounded services, trauma-informed support, and real coordination between agencies. Supporting families should never have taken this long – but responding now is still the right thing to do.
Families deserve justice, support, and respect
As your MLA, I believe deeply in advancing equity, justice, and dignity for all communities. That includes confronting systemic failures and ensuring families who experience unthinkable loss are not left to navigate it alone.
Here’s what you need to know:
- A new community navigator role will help families access culturally appropriate supports.
- Indigenous-led organizations will guide the development of services.
- The program aims to strengthen emotional, legal, and practical support across Nova Scotia.
I will continue to advocate for policies that are trauma-informed, Indigenous-led, and centered in justice and care.
