Dear Constituents of Halifax Armdale,
It’s officially fall! With it comes the mixed feelings of summer vacations ending and the return to school at all levels.
As your MLA, September brings most community summer events to a close and this year, an early return to the legislature on September 8.
West Moor 57 Housing Co-op BBQ
September 12 was a fun day as your MLA.
In the early afternoon, I attended the annual (but postponed) West Moor 57 BBQ. West Moor 57 is a housing co-op covering streets in the Vaughan and Cook area, one of the first housing co-ops created in Nova Scotia, back in 1977.
The hidden gem of a park in the middle of the co-op is named after one of the founders, Kenneth Walker, and will turn 50 next year.
It was great to see two and three generations raised in this community, where people truly know and look out for each other. We were there with our POP UP Popsicle stand, dodged the water pistol brigade, and had great conversations about family histories. Great burgers, too!

City Kids Escape BBQ
What a day! It was great to see literally hundreds of kids having fun, with food, slides, pony rides, and petting zoos at the park.
My office was happy to support this day, and I was coerced into a pony ride.
A big thank you to Tina for this amazing event.
Nova Scotia Legislature
The Nova Scotia legislature sat from September 8 to September 18, 2026.
NSNDP priorities, what we heard from you this summer:
Much of the legislation that passed this fall started as ideas put forward by the Opposition.For years, New Democrats have been working to ban tip theft, make improvements in labour standards, introduce performance-based regulation for Nova Scotia Power, and protect Nova Scotians from deep fake intimate images.These changes should not have taken Tim Houston five years. While the government has finally begun to take action on these ideas, they didn’t go far enough to protect Nova Scotian workers in the middle of a tariff war.Nova Scotians still have to work 44 hours before they get overtime; we pushed the Houston government to reduce it to 40 hours, but they refused. New Democrats also pushed to protects gig workers, give Nova Scotians five paid sick days, and get rid of the overtime carve outs that force some Nova Scotians — like construction and IT workers — to lose out on thousands of dollars.People need to see real results: more money in their pockets, more homes, shorter wait times for care, stable, predictable monthly rent. And most of all, they need a government they can trust to make it happen.

The firefighter bill did not reach debate before the legislature closed.

Community Support, This Month’s Profile
Special Olympics Nova Scotia
Special Olympics Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Nova Scotians with an intellectual disability through sport. Founded in 1978, it serves over 2,500 registered athletes across 15 regions in the province, from ages four to 84+.
The organization offers year-round sport training and competition opportunities in a wide range of sports including athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, curling, floor hockey, figure skating, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, and speed skating. Programs are managed by hundreds of volunteers and supported by a volunteer Board of Directors and a small staff team.
Athletes from Nova Scotia regularly compete at provincial, national, and international levels. Team Nova Scotia sent 80 athletes, 29 coaches, and 8 mission staff to the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
